Forsite is looking for GIS Technicians with training and experience in GIS and mapping.  The successful applicant will work within a team environment, playing a key spatial data processing and mapping role in support of a wide range of forest, land and cultural resource management projects.  The position requires a relevant technical training with at least 5 years of experience in GIS and spatial information processing.

SCOPE:

Working within Forsite’s Resource Management and Technology business area you will implement key digitizing, processing and mapping tasks as a part of project teams.  You will work under the direction of project managers and other technical specialists to capture spatial data and provide effective reporting and decision support through creation of map products.  You should demonstrate problem solving skill, attention to detail and diligence in the implementation of your work.  Mapping will range from the development of custom and one-off mapping products to a production spatial data processing environment.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Strong ability to work both within an dynamic team environment and independently with little supervision.
  • Proven skills in planning, organization, communication, and problem solving.
  • Technical training in mapping and GIS
  • A minimum of 5  years of mapping or related experience, with a focus on ESRI suite of tools and the use of geodatabases
  • Completion of a Bachelors degree in a related discipline and experience in forest, land and resource development sectors would be considered assets.

Time management and task budgets.  Spatial data quality and accuracy.  Effective map display.

LEADERSHIP:

Provide input into the processes used to capture and display spatial data.  Contribute to the development of spatial data solutions for our clients within a team environment.

COMMUNICATION/FACILITATION:

Provide clear written and verbal communications.  Support clear and common understanding of project and data quality requirements and procedures.  Contribute to project level discussions and coordination in support of successful projects.
