Geotechnical Engineer
Salary $58,921.64 - $76,830.90 annually, plus a 4.4% Temporary Market Adjustment 

Position is based in Kamloops however, other Southern Interior BC locations may be negotiable. This posting will remain open until position is filled and applications will be reviewed at 30 day intervals.

Provide your expertise in this specialist role

As Geotechnical Engineer, you will write professional reports which include detailed, site specific prescriptions and/or work techniques based on geotechnical investigations along proposed and existing resource road corridors. You will also examine areas where serious environmental damage has resulted from landslides or soil erosion, determine the causes and recommend and specify to the Ministry of Forests and to licensees the necessary remedial measures. In addition, you will provide specialist input into provincial reports and handbooks to improve the field application of geotechnical principles and techniques, and provides recommendations to improvements of existing or proposed standards/regulations of the FRPA.

An excellent communicator with proven analytical abilities, you develop and maintain productive working relationships with a diverse group of professionals and providing advice to districts, BCTS, professional engineering consultants and other clients. You will develop and implement critical policies, standards and guidelines for development and pursue effective enforcement of geotechnical requirements. Highly motivated, you have the initiative and expertise needed to be a provincial leader in geotechnical knowledge and experimentation.

This work will require periods of extended overnight travel which may be up to 25 per cent of your time. Fieldwork may include sites under construction, steep or potentially unstable terrain and may be required during any season and under any weather conditions.

In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following education and experience:

• Bachelor of Applied Science degree in geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, or civil engineering with a geotechnical background and five years of current professional (gained over last 7 years) related engineering experience.
• Preferably five years related geotechnical experience in the resource sector with a focus upon forestry issues.
• Registration or eligible for immediate registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia.

Applicants selected to move forward in the hiring process may be assessed on the following criteria:

• Working knowledge of geotechnical and civil engineering as they relate to access management planning and road survey, design, construction, maintenance and deactivation.
• Working knowledge of soil erosion processes, rockfall and landslide initiation and runout assessment and analysis.
• Ability to plan, design, constructs, rehabilitate and deactivate forestry, and other, similar, resource roads.
• Ability to review, advise, assist and approve a wide variety of engineering projects.
