Our client is an emerging forestry company engaged in the ownership of private timberlands, harvesting operations and manufacturing specialty wood products.  The chairman has assembled a team of forestry leaders, boasting over 100 years in senior management roles in the industry.  The experienced management team has secured quality, British Columbia regionally-focused assets to deliver significant near-term returns and long-term viability, building on a base of solid timber supply. 

 Primarily servicing logging operations in the Kootenay and Mackenzie regions of British Columbia, our vision is to take this modest fleet and grow it into one of the largest independent trucking companies in Western Canada.

Opportunity:

Our client is seeking a progressive and skilled leader to grow the business, recruit and develop our employees and maximise the efficiency of our daily operations.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager will be responsible for managing a fleet of 30 trucks; overseeing expansion to a 40-70 truck fleet in the coming year, with a 5-year plan to expand upwards of 200 trucks.

As the company continues to grow, you will lead the operations team while managing, implementing, and improving policies and procedures to meet the demands of internal and external stakeholders.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest level of safety performance
  • Lead the growth and development of the trucking business
  • Manage and improve the safety, quality, cost and delivery, and employee engagement within the trucking organization
  • Work closely with our core operations to meet the demands of our customers, lower costs and drive operational efficiency
  • Recruit and develop a world class team of drivers and support staff\evaluate and implement leading-edge transportation technology and equipment
  • Manage the efficient operations and maintenance of our fleet

Preferred leadership skills:

  • Proven operational ability in safety, leadership and achieving goals
  • Solid understanding of forest operations and the trucking industry
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and team leadership skills
  • A good working understand of technology and automation
  • Experience in industry at a minimum superintendent level

Compensation

Compensation is commiserate on experience, plus benefits and a vacation package.
