General Manager, Cariboo Region - Tolko Industries Ltd. (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Full Time

  Boyden (http://www.boyden.com/canada)

  Cariboo Region, British Columbia, Canada

Established in 1956, Tolko Industries Ltd. is a private, Canadian-owned forest products company based in Vernon, British Columbia that manufactures and markets specialty forest products to world markets. With 3,500 employees in manufacturing operations across Western Canada, Tolko is a major producer and marketer of lumber, plywood, veneer, oriented strand board and kraft papers.

With a broad product mix, an experienced management team, a strong balance sheet and a tremendous reputation in the market, Tolko is recognized as one of the leading forestry companies in the sector. As a family-owned company, Tolko is able to make decisions with a long term perspective and truly focus on the communities in which it operates.

As the company continues to grow and in order to add succession depth, Tolko has created the role of General Manager (GM), Cariboo. The GM will take on strategic and operational leadership (P&L) of three lumber mills in Quesnel and Williams Lake and provide oversight to over 600 employees. The mills have recently gone through major capital reinvestment and there is a tremendous opportunity for a successful leader to drive productivity and profitability in these operations, while learning the Tolko business as part of what will be an ongoing and rigorous development plan, the end result of which will optimally be inclusion among the senior leadership ranks.

The ideal candidate will be a business savvy leader with a track record of success driving profitability in a large scale business unit in the forestry sector. The experience could have been gained as VP, GM, Area Manager, Business Unit Leader or a Plant Manager of a large and highly complex operation. Ideally, he/she will have specific experience in lumber or plywood and a strong understanding of other areas of the business, such as, woodlands, finance, and sales and marketing.

The GM will be joining an organization with a ‘family-oriented’ culture with integrity, respect, open communication, safety, progressiveness and profit as key values.

This is an opportunity for significant career growth. The new GM will have a chance to take on a change mandate and work with an experienced executive team and company committed to the development of its leaders.
