Every year, West Fraser hires approximately 50 summer students throughout our Canadian operations in BC and Alberta. Our forestry students get hands-on experience and training in the forest industry in one of three main areas: silviculture, operations, and planning.

Forestry summer terms can be 4 months, 8 months or up to 1 year depending on your institution’s program schedule and how far along you are in your school program.  Summer student opportunities are available in the 10 locations below.

BC Locations: Fraser Lake, Quesnel, 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Smithers/Houston, or Chetwynd

 

SILVICULTURE

Planting supervision, regen/free growing surveys, insects probes, stand tending assessments and other related silviculture duties.

OPERATIONS

Organize and assist with harvesting and road construction programs and inspections as well as other related operational duties.

PLANNING

Implement operational planning of harvesting/road construction programs related to various forest tenures as well as other related planning duties.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Enrolled in a Forestry Degree Program or a Forestry Technical Diploma Program at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Prior forestry, agricultural or industrial experience considered and asset
  • Must be available to commence work in May 2013
  • Must have a valid Drivers Licence
  • Basic outdoor skills
  • Strong work ethic
