Forestry Representative (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Bauman Sawmill Inc. (BSI) is a hardwood sawmill and woodshop facility located in south western Ontario just north of Kitchener/Waterloo in the village of Wallenstein. We process approximately 4.5 million board feet of quality hardwood lumber per year, and we are a main supplier of the toboggan and snow toy industry in North America. Our motto of “from forest management to finished product” rounds out our engagement with the forest industry. We are looking for a candidate to fill the position of FORESTRY REPRESENTATIVE. The candidate would work from their home office in the Lindsay/Peterborough area to join our procurement team to assist with supply our mill needs.

Job Description:

  • To work as a liason between private landowners, BSI, and county woodlot managers
  • Be willing to manage privately owned hardwood woodlots using Good Forestry Practices
  • Conduct woodlot assessments and timber valuations based on grade and actual tree marking data
  • As a RPF, to develop silvicultural prescriptions when required, and to develop management plans for private woodlands as they develop
  • Supervision of logging crews and co-ordination of trucking products to mills
  • Source woodlots in your area suitable for hardwood woodlot management
  • Maintain records of all management activities
  • Must be willing to travel to different areas as needed, some overnight trips will develop occasionally
  • A reliable vehicle is required for your travels ( vehicle allowance is paid )
  • Be willing to work within Species at Risk and the Endangered Species Act legislation
  • Be comfortable working in all conditions, and be willing to communicate well with private landowners and farmers

Requirements:

  • University graduate with RPF status or be eligible for enrollment in the OPFA to obtain RPF status, or graduate Forestry Technician
  • Certified tree marker or be willing to become a certified tree marker
  • Some field experience in hardwood forest management would be an asset
  • Be willing to learn timber and log values on an on-going basis
  • Be willing to work in inclement weather
