Forestry Procurement Representative I (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

SEEKING FORESTRY MAJORS

JOB PURPOSE: To procure low cost, high quality and timely raw materials for mills, including purchasing timber/materials, coordinating delivery, overseeing contractors, and administering contracts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee contract personnel; ensure all aspects of contract(s) are followed.
  • Research, review and administer titles and maps, including reviewing legal description for accuracy, location & boundaries, and access.
  • Review tract compliance by ensuring log lengths, utilization standards and BMP compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, land owners and contract personnel.
  • Track and forecast inventories.
  • Plan and manage budget
  • Cruise and map timber areas; identify and delineate areas to be harvested.
  • Negotiate and purchase materials. • Analyze raw material data and assign values.
  • Develop and administer contracts, bids and reports.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
  • Perform other duties as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS: Skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Knowledge of product specifications and pricing,
  • Good communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret compass, maps and aerial photographs.
  • Ability to identify key market indicators and understanding of market trends.
  • Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Ability to use computer and supporting software.
  • Driver’s License required
  • Knowledge of forestry principles, wood quality, timber marking and harvesting equipment
  • Basic knowledge of contracts and legal terms

 

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related area preferred

Required Experience:

2+ years forestry procurement experience • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
