Forestry Coordinator (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Forestry Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the volume required by the Fort St. John and Chetwynd sawmills, and PVOSB, is permitted in a safe, timely, cost effective manner.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Provide leadership to the permitting and field operations team to ensure they are successful in achieving the program and company goals.
  • Ensuring permitted volume meets manufacturing facility requirements for profile, fibre quality, and cost.
  • Managing volume to meet 3-year plan targets.
  • Ensuring layout and permit quality standards are met.
  • Managing stumpage thru accurate and complete cruising and appraisals.
  • Hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, and developing qualified personnel.
  • Maintain a sustainable workforce of qualified contractors.
  • Tracking, reporting and root cause analysis of safety, quality, cost, and delivery results.
  • Participate in the development and annual budgets and monthly cost projections.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in compliance with all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, forestry legislation, Canfor’s Environmental Policy, Forestry Principles, and Forestry Management System.
  • Demonstrate innovation by implementing efficiencies and cost savings through performance management and continuous improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related forestry experience.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an RPF or RFT with the association of BC Forest Professionals.
  • University degree or Technical Diploma.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and project management skills, with an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable B.C. legislation and policies,
  • Excellent computer skills and related software experience including forestry applications.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
