Job Description
· GPS traverse / survey of cut-block boundary & roads
· Forest health surveys including beetle probing & aerial mapping
· Timber Cruising assistance
· Stream classification surveys
· As-built surveys for golf course, utilities & engineering applications
· Detailed topographic surveying using RTK GPS
· Air photo & lidar target surveying
Skills Required
· Experience with use of GPS technology
· Proficiency in PC environment including experience with MSWord, Excel, Outlook, Google Earth
· Experience with CAD, GIS or GPS processing s/w a definite asset
· Map reading & navigational skills
· Experience with ATV & snowmobile operation
· Experience with operation of 4x4 pickup / SUV
· Good written & oral communication skills
· Self-motivated & a willingness to work alone in the field
· Good organizational skills & attention to detail are required
· A willingness to work in adverse conditions & in remote locations
Qualifications
· Minimum 2 years’ experience as Forestry / Survey Tech or similar position
· Completion of high school & some post-secondary education required (ie) preference given to those with training in forestry &/or surveying applications
· Valid Class-5 BC Driver’s licence
· Criminal Record Check
· Level-1 1st Aid
Other Information
· 4x4 vehicle provided
· If the employee supplies his/her own vehicle, compensation will be provided
· ATV, snowmobile & most field equipment are provided (ie) employee expected to provide his/her own raingear & footwear
· R&B costs paid by employer when working outside Vernon area
· Bonus / wage incentive available for certain projects
· Estimate 30 hours / week for this position - may develop into full time in the summer / fall
· Approximately 85% of field work in the Vernon / Okanagan area (ie) anticipate some projects elsewhere in BC
Compensation
Salary: $18.00 - $20.00/HourlyJob Type: Part-Time, Seasonal
