FORESTLAND APPRAISER

Sewall is a national forestry and natural resource consulting firm in its 134th year of business.  Headquartered in Old Town, Maine, we provide professional services to a wide variety of public- and private-sector clients throughout the United States and internationally.  We seek a motivated individual to perform forestry and natural resource valuation and analysis in the southeastern United States, with opportunity for exposure to overseas projects. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, high performing team with a reputation for knowledgeable, quality service and long-term client relationships. 

This position will entail forestland appraisal and resource analysis and will require travel and field work from your home office. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in forestry, forest economics, forestry/business, or related field, and 8+ years of experience in the Natural Resources field. We are looking for formal appraiser credentials in forestry, natural resources, and/or agriculture.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: To ensure the success of the corporate mission statement by providing project support to the FNR group. This will be accomplished by leading several tasks in FNR’s land management activities.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Actively participate in the budgeting process for the region
  •  Work with Gary Mullaney and others to integrate Forestry Appraisal into the cross-functional approach that is being developed throughout the Company
  •  Provide natural resource appraisal/analysis
  •  Plan and execute wildlife, environmental, and non-timber activities
  •  Develop and implement backcountry recreation plans
  •  Support various projects in the FNR group, including field work
  •  Represent the client with local and regional presentations

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  •  Skills in database and word processing to maintain and convey relevant and significant information
  •  Ability to develop a professional presentation with Power Point
  •  Ability to speak to small and medium sized groups
  •  Writing skills necessary for reporting to a varied client base
  •  Ability to write small- to medium-sized proposals

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED TO SUCCEED IN THIS POSITION:

• An undergraduate degree in a forestry, wildlife, environmental science, or related technical discipline

• 8+ experience in the Natural Resources field

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR LIMITATIONS:

  • Must be in good physical condition, able to climb stairs, and lift file boxes, computers, and field equipment, up to 50 pounds; work on a computer/monitor and
  • conduct business by telephone; navigate off-road vehicles; walk/snowshoe under adverse outdoor conditions;
  • orienteer using compass, GPS, maps. Must be willing to travel overnight.
