Position Overview:

Under the direction and supervision of the Senior Forester, candidate will provide technical support to the Natural Resources Conservation initiatives to include all aspects of integrated natural resources management at Fort Jackson, SC.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparing areas for and applying prescribed fire to acreage identified in the annual prescribed fire plan at Fort Jackson, SC.
  • Assist with post-burn evaluations and collection of fire weather related data necessary for reporting requirements.
  • Assist with Red-cockaded Woodpecker (RCW) cavity assessments (status and condition), performing field investigations to collect RCW habitat data, monitoring the installation's RCW population, installing RCW artificial cavities and cluster markings, RCW habitat improvements (timber cruise and marking), native groundcover restoration, and providing RCW awareness training and education to the Fort Jackson commands.

    Qualifications (Education and Experience):
     
  • Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Biology, Forestry, General Biology, or related discipline preferred.
  •  3-5 years of successful working experience in wild land fire, endangered species conservation (Red-cockaded Woodpecker), and other wildlife management
  • Candidate must have experience with wild land fire, endangered species conservation, and other wildlife management and have a clear understanding of the biological principles and theories of forestry, wildlife, and ecology management of the longleaf pine ecosystem and be able to identify the flora of the southeastern United States.
  • Candidate must be a U.S Citizen, have a current driver's license, be able to pass a background security investigation, and have an original copy of their birth certificate.

Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on experience.
