Forester (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

This position will be based in our Salem, Oregon, office and report directly to the Timberland Manager. This position will assist managing Hampton’s U.S. timberlands in accordance with direction from the Board of Directors and CEO for protection of the forest environment and those values shareholders deem important.

Major Duties:

  • Reforestation activities in the Salem management area including contract supervision of planting and measuring seedling survival.
  • Vegetation management including, site preparation, slash burning and herbicide application.
  • Pre-commercial thinning and commercial thinning to achieve desired stand density.
  • Assist in layout of roads and harvesting units.
  • Produce notification of operations and supervise road builders and loggers.
  • Fire protection of fee timberland including maintenance and operation of company equipment.
  • Interface with neighbors, timberland owners, public, and local authorities.
  • Budget preparation and cost control.
  • Assist other Hampton personnel in various operations as needed, such as inventory or timber sale cruising.
  • Forest operations compliance with the Principles and Standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of forestry related responsibilities, or demonstrated professional and technical expertise.
  • Individual needs to be a motivated self-starter, creative problem solver and enthusiastic team player.
  • Excellent PC skills inclusive of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and familiar with GIS.

Education:

  • Minimum: Bachelor Degree in forest related curriculum.
