JOB SUMMARY:

A career with Coal Creek will challenge you to manage and care for more than 72,000 acres of Company owned timber, work with private landowners through our consulting forestry business, and work with the largest privately owned off-highway vehicle park in the country.

DUTIES:

There are three main areas of focus; the management of company timber, third-party forest consulting, and recreation.

The Coal Creek Company- 72,000 Acres

The Coal Creek Company has been in business since 1872 and harvests approximately 5 million board feet of timber annually with three full-time logging contractors. The forester is responsible for determining the areas to be harvested, layout the harvests, prepare contracts and maps, oversee the harvest operation, conduct regular harvest inspections as well as final harvest/follow-up inspections. Additionally, weekly scale tickets and payments must be processed for each timber harvest. The forester will be responsible for maintaining records of all timber harvests and will also handle all FSC related documents and fieldwork. 

Southeastern Forest Management

Southeastern Forest Management is a subsidiary of The Coal Creek Company and offers forestry consulting services to the private sector. These services include timber inventory and appraisals, timber sales, management plans,  timber theft investigation, hunting lease administration, property line maintenance, mapping, and recreation advisement.

The forester is responsible for working with landowners to determine what is needed in order to accomplish their goals. This includes everything from the initial property inspection to the end of the project. Timber sales will include developing a timber cruise, mapping, cruising / marking the timber to be sold, timber sale notices, show dates/bid openings, timber sale closing, harvest inspections, and follow-up inspections.

Windrock Park Recreation

The Coal Creek Company property, called Windrock Park, has over 300 miles of OHV trails as well as a Down Hill Bike Course and other trails which are scattered across the property and play a large role in Company activities.

The forester will be responsible for mapping related to various recreation activities.  

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Minimum of BS in forestry with a minimum of 5 years of experience in hardwood forest inventory, timber sale administration and other basic forestry is required.  Forestry consulting experience is preferred, but is not required. Experience with ArcGIS software, handheld GPS units and software (i.e. Garmin, DNR Garmin), as well as Excel and Word are needed.
