Crowell Lumber Industries (CLI), a family owned and operated company since 1892, sustainably manages its timberland ownership across numerous parishes of central Louisiana. The newly constructed main office, 15 minutes south of Alexandria in the town of Forest Hill, is centrally located to the ownership. CLI is focused on long-term land and timber management, forest stewardship and wildlife management all while maximizing forest productivity. Operational efficiency and forest management activities are maximized through use of continuous innovations in GIS, GPS and other data management technologies.

Position Description:

  • Assist Senior Forester and Management Partners in developing harvesting and silvicultural prescriptions to maximize individual forest stand production potential.
  • Negotiate, administer and oversee contracted silvicultural and property management activities.
  • Assist in maintaining ATFS Certification through proper planning, implementation and oversight of management activities on entire timberland portfolio.
  • Assist in oversight of logging contractors and BMP compliance.
  • Oversee, manage and orchestrate activities for Forest Technician(s).
  • Continue development and implementation of ongoing in-house inventory analysis.
  • Assist in implementing current and forward thinking management of GIS (ArcMap, ArcGIS Online and ArcServer) and timber inventory analysis software (T-Cruise).
  • Along with the core responsibilities listed above this position will assist in ongoing strategic meetings regarding management operations.

Required Education:

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Management or equivalent

Required Experience:

Minimum of 5 years industry experience. Preference given to 10+ years experience.

Skills:

Highly motivated and willing to participate as a team member in a team environment.

Decisive in areas of responsibility however able to recognize and communicate issues requiring management input.

Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent and effective communication skills when dealing with peers, customers, contractors, lease holders and the general public.

Proficiency with Office Suite software, GIS software and T-Cruise (or equivalent).

Current, valid Driver’s License

Must be willing to live within a reasonable distance of Forest Hill office.

Desire for working outdoors to ensure quality compliance regarding all forestry and management related activities. (Approx. 30% Office and 70% Field Operations)
