The Position

Southwest Forest Products is looking for a Forester, for our harvesting division.   Reporting to the  Forestry Manager the successful candidate will be required to run the day to day operations of a fully mechanized harvesting & hauling operation producing in excess of 100 loads per week of Ponderosa Pine fibre from Arizona's National Forest system.  The Forester must cost effectively produce raw material targets, while assuring compliance with internal & external requirements.  Specific duties include;

  • Supervision of 15 full time employees.
  • Organizing and monitoring of contracted work force
  • Field planning of harvesting treatment areas.
  • Liaison with Forest Service representatives.
  • Facilitate the maintenance & repair of 10 harvesting machine units.
  • Ensuring adherence to company policies and timber sale contract regulations.
  • Maintain company safety and log quality standards.

Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will have an optimum combination of the following:

  • Experience supervising a harvesting operation.
  • Tertiary education in a forestry related field.
  • A track record of implementing key strategic initiatives resulting in improved productivity and efficiencies;
  • Highly capable of motivating, developing and rallying a team;
  • Demonstrated the potential to take on additional responsibilities over time; for succession planning purposes, is willing and able to position them selves as having general management potential.
  • Physically fit, and willing to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Ability to operate and/or extensive knowledge of heavy equipment is considered a definite asset.

The successful candidate must be willing to live in the central operations area of Flagstaff-Williams in beautiful Northern Arizona.  

Minimum 2-3 year experience required.

H.S. Diploma/Equivalent

 

Compensation

Compensation will include a competitive base salary plus performance incentives. Company vehicle, laptop, & cell phone will also be made available.
