Job Description: 
This position is designed to assist other foresters, specialists and managers in providing proper information and guidance for our forestry clients by implementing sound forest management techniques and methods to meet their long or short term goals.
  • Conducting aerial photo and image interpretations of landscape features, determine scale and make measurements from imagery using tools both in the office and in the field; 
  • Timber Sale Set-up and Harvesting Supervision; 
  • Timber Marking; 
  • Timber Cruise/Inventories; 
  • Tract Inspections to determine forest health, trespass, etc.; 
  • Hunting Lease Management;
  • Boundary Line Maintenance (posting and painting); 
  • Assistance with and preparation of Forest Management Plans and/or Timber Appraisals; 
  • Correspondence with landowners and contractors both verbally and written;
  • Interpretation of timber volume data; 
  • Undergo training and acquire proficiency in relevant computer applications as needed; and other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications: 
Bird Forestry prefers that candidates have a minimum of a Bachelors degree or higher, or experience and/or specialized training in forest management operations from an accredited institute that may be substituted for education.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
  • Experience with photo/map interpretation and/or data collection; / 
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and work effectively within a team environment; and 
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent jobs while producing quality results. 
  • An understanding of basic forest measurements and inventory methods; 
  • Basic ability to identify tree and plant species common to the Southeastern United States; 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint); 
  • Experience with photo/map interpretation and/or data collection; 
  • Basic working knowledge/experience with GPS equipment and concepts; 
Miscellaneous: 
This job is located at the Bird Forestry main office in Center, Texas, and the successful candidate will report to this office on a daily basis. On occasion this job will require the employee to work more than 40 hours per week and may also require out of town stays. Qualified candidate must also have access to dependable transportation suitable for both in-the-woods and highway use. Mileage will be paid for on the Job personal vehicle use.
