Position Description:
Forester/Forest Technician duties will include cruising and appraisal of timber, purchasing and selling of timber and logs, working with loggers, contract administration and other tasks related to log supply and quality control.
This is a salaried exempt position reporting to the Resource Manager in the timber department.
Position Responsibilities:
• Cruising and appraisal of timber
• Timber Contract administration
• Valuing and purchasing of logs and timber
• Marketing log and timber resources
Position Requirements:
• Minimum Associates Degree in Forestry
• Solid understanding of, and experience with, all timber inventory methods
• Requires skilled use of numerous forestry instruments, electronic devices, and field data recorders
• Must be self-motivated with ability to manage time, working within a team as well as independently
• Variable hours; often exceeds 8 hours a day
• Adheres to safe travel on single-lane forest roads using radios and/or approved mobile devices
• Requires special safety clothing, physical-fitness, and hiking often steep forest terrain, climbing over downed trees, while carrying forestry instruments
• Ability to work with others to foster a team environment
• Proven ability to develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with landowners, suppliers, and logging contractors
• Proven record of purchasing and merchandising log resources
• Recognition of log grade and values by geographical area
• Experience and ability to cruise and value timber and logs accurately
• Valid Drivers License
