Northwest Wood Treaters is part of the CanWel Treating Division, which is under the CanWel Building Materials Group Ltd.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor manages the day-to-day production activities throughout the plant. This position supervises the production staff, and coordinates all aspects of production, staffing, scheduling and ensures that all company objectives and environmental standards are met.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

Operations

  • Direct and coordinate plant operations within company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for plant production goals and product quality control.
  • Oversee daily production activities and facilitate workflow.
  • Actively involved in weekly production meetings.
  • Review a detailed inventory position report for production priorities and plan production schedules daily. 
  • Ensure production volumes are met, downtime is limited and follow up on any problems that may occur.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose machinery breakdowns with millwright and related personnel, solving pump, valve, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical malfunctions.
  • Control the inventory to retain maximum value and minimal waste.

Health and Safety

  • Maintain a clean and safe plant.
  • Proactively promote a safe work environment and ensure that all employees are knowledgeable and diligent in carrying out their duties.
  • Attend and actively participate in safety meetings.

People Management

  • Foster a well-trained and motivated staff.
  • Confer with internal customers to ensure coordination of inventories, production, and shipping.
  • Participate in human resources functions such as health and safety, recruitment, terminations, performance management, attendance management, and training.
  • Supervise the production/quality of approximately 20 plant employees.
  • Create shift schedules, and adjust accordingly to support production and special project requirements to ensure that production runs smoothly.
  • Provide the proper orientation and training as required to ensure an efficient and effective work force.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Technical

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in a production facility
  • Lumber manufacturing or wood preserving experience is desirable.
  • Familiar with operating milling machinery
  • Production forecasting and scheduling experience

EDUCATION

  • High school graduation
  • Diploma or certificate in business administration or operations is an asset.

HOURS OF WORK 

  • Typically Monday through Friday starting at 6:30 am.
  • May be required to work early or late hours, or evenings, statutory holidays, or weekends as necessary.
