Forest Planning Analyst (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

With 260 employees operating from 49 offices located in 16 states, AFM’s team of professionals is focused on meeting client needs by providing a complete range of forestry services including land and wildlife management, land sale and acquisition services, forest inventory and design, growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, environmental services, appraisal, forest resource data management and harvest scheduling.

The Technical Services Department is responsible for providing technology solutions for AFM and its clients.  Within the Department, the Forest Planning and Analysis Group performs harvest scheduling, resource management and planning services, acquisition and disposition analysis, and forest investment decision support.  The successful candidate for this position will work in a team environment to provide these and other forest planning services to AFM and its customers.  This position also provides support to the Technical Services Department by assisting with ongoing systems development, process improvement, and product testing. 

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide decision support for timberland investment and management across AFM’s operating      regions, utilizing different types of modeling techniques
  • Work closely with customers throughout the strategic and tactical planning process
  • Utilize models  to generate discounted cash flow analyses for timberland investment
  • Assist with the  management of model input data, including researching timberland markets, processing      inventory data, and validating growth and yield
  • Interpret and  communicate model results clearly to a variety of customers
  • Market AFM  services and general business development for all business groups

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management, preferred
  • Minimum two years of work experience in forestry related field
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating model behavior and problem-solving
  • Familiarity with Remsoft’s Spatial Planning System
  • Technical ability to interpret and process large amounts of forest inventory and spatial data from varying sources
  • Abilityto interpret and effectively communicate model results with field managers and clients
  • Willingness to travel throughout the AFM operating area
