Planning Forest Professional Wanted – Edmonton, AB based Position

 

One of the leading Western Forest Products Companies is looking for a Forest Operations Planning Professional with operations & GIS experience

 

Our client is seeking a forest management professional to help them with annual & long-term planning for their woodlands operations and forest products facilities in Northwestern Alberta. The position is a predominantly office based (Edmonton) planning role with some remote field duties on a seasonal and monthly basis.

 

The ideal candidate has intermediate forest operations and engineering experience, has good knowledge of timber assessment and operational planning and good GIS skills. A sound knowledge of public planning and regulatory processes is desired as is the ability to communicate in an effective manner with a variety of stakeholders and other professionals. The candidate will be a key part of a regional planning team and will be supported by a variety of other experienced forestry staff but must have the ability to work independently on a regular basis.   

 

Position Key Duties and Abilities:

 

·         Preparation & submission of general forest development plans (5 year) & annual operating plans (1 year);

·         Communication and consultation with Government & stakeholders across a multiple user land base;

·         Directing and managing season staff and contractors across the land base in their operational duties;

·         Ensuring that corporate safety, EMS and forest certification objectives are carried out on the land base;

·         Ability to tackle multiple complex tasks and work with a minimum of supervision is required;

·         Strong leadership skills including communications and interpersonal skills are required;

·         Excellent work ethic and ability to work with and motivate others is key;

·         A commitment to crew and personal safety is mandatory.

 

Education and Qualifications Sought

 

·         Four year Bachelor of Forestry or Forest Engineering and/or a two year forest technical diploma and registration or eligibility with CAPF or CAPFT;

·         Minimum of 3-5 years related forestry experience including timber cruising and evaluation, harvest block and road engineering experience required;

·         Experience planning multi-phase timber developments is highly preferable; 

·         GIS (Arc) mapping skills are required for this role and knowledge and use of other mapping and remote sensing technologies (eg. LiDAR) is desirable;

·         Experience in remote work situations in a variety of weather and climatic conditions is mandatory;

·         Experience with SFI and ISO 14001 certification programs is beneficial;

·         A commitment to the principles of good forest stewardship and sustainable forest management is mandatory.

Position Specifics:

 

Salary: $70-90,000 annually plus benefits.

Travel: Monthly and some seasonal travel to Northwestern Alberta is required.
