Forest Economist (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Forest2Market is a provider of market price data, forecasts, analysis and supply chain expertise for the forest, wood products, paper products, and bioenergy industries.

We are seeking a Forest Economist to develop econometric models, conduct research to populate models and report on the results. Candidates must possess a strong interest in economics and forecasting, as well as a genuine interest in analyzing complex datasets and tackling challenging projects.

Successful candidates will be innately curious, resourceful, well-organized, and will have a demonstrable dedication to detail.  

Responsibilities include: 

1. Design econometric models to forecast the 1) general economic trends that influence supply and demand in forestry-related industries and 2) stumpage prices 

2. Devise methods and procedures for collecting and processing data, using knowledge of available sources of data and various econometric and sampling techniques 

3. Review and analyze economic data in order to prepare reports detailing results of investigation and to stay abreast of economic changes 

4. Organize data into report format and prepare graphic illustrations of research findings 

5. Write analytical reports on detailing forecast data and analysis on a regular schedule  

Required Qualifications: 

1. An advanced degree in Forest Economics (Ph.D. preferred) 

2. Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States. 

3. 5 years of experience in economics related to forestry-related industries 

4. Proven track record developing and running advanced econometric and statistical models; knowledge of econometrics and multivariate statistics and demonstrated research ability applying these skills 

5. Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, including economic theory, applied mathematics and statistics, and quantitative methods; 

6. Knowledge of forest biometrics, the FIA database and growth and yield models 

7. Precise attention to detail 

8. Demonstrated project management experience 

9. Excellent oral and written communication skills (a writing test will be administered during the interview process) including: 

a. Fluency in English 

b. The ability to explain complex economic analyses in the language of non-economists 

c. The ability to work closely with clients and other employees on a variety of projects 

10. Thorough knowledge of SAS and Microsoft Office. 

11. Solid time-management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on and manage 

multiple tasks and projects with tight deadlines 

12. Ability to work well independently in a fast-paced environment
