As First Nations Consultation Officer, you are responsible for reviewing proposals for the use of natural resources on Crown Land, analyzing the impact of proposals and the strength of aboriginal claims to determine the appropriate level of consultation needed to meet the Crown’s legal duty to consult with First Nations. With your knowledge of constitutional and statutory responsibilities associated with First Nations consultation plans, you lead the facilitation of the First Nations consultation process while ensuring all legal obligations have been met. A motivated self-starter, you exhibit exceptional problem-solving and learning skills while conducting research and assessing First Nations’ interests, rights and title (claimed or proven). With your excellent verbal and written communication skills, you thrive on your ability to build and maintain key relationships with First Nations for the Fort St James Resource District while making recommendations to decision makers on whether projects should proceed.

A skilled communicator with a collaborative approach, you establish strong working relationships with First Nations, external stakeholders, ministry staff and staff in agencies and other ministries.
