Finishing End Superintendent (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

For our pulp and paper producing client, we are currently looking for a Finishing End Superintendent to join their management team in central BC. You will be responsible for providing overall management of Planer mill Production, Shipping and Kilns departments and as such liaises with the Sawmill, Maintenance, Quality Control and general Administration departments to ensure excellent safety performance combined with maximum productivity, quality and customer satisfaction with the lowest possible cost.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest level of workplace safety and ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and corporate polices

  • Optimizing safety and production performance of the operation

  • Ensure the highest level of quality control and product presentation standards for customer satisfaction

  • Provide direction and support for operating and supervising personnel and foster a highly effective working relationship with all employees

  • Provide development for supervisory personnel

  • Maintain a liaison with ongoing continuous improvement and quality control initiatives

  • Assist in management of the annual budget and cost control program

  • Ensure full compliance with applicable government regulations, corporate policies and environmental permits

 

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to lead in safety and engage people in process management

  • Experience as a supervisor or superintendent in wood products manufacturing

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and team building skills

  • Solid knowledge of Performance Management and Continual Improvement processes

  • Solid understanding and knowledge of optimization equipment and process

  • Sound knowledge of marketing and product mix

  • Proficiency in contemporary business management skills (Microsoft Office applications, understanding of financial principles)

  • Strong organizational skills with the desire to accept the challenge of working in continually changing internal and external business conditions

  • Be an effective leader and communicator with strong verbal, written and oral presentation skills

  • Post-secondary education in wood products or forestry would be an asset

  • Maintenance experience would be an asset
