Field Forester (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Calfee Woodland Management LLC, a small, private consulting forestry firm in southwestern Vermont is looking for an experienced field forester to assist in the management of their portfolio of clients in southern Vermont and adjacent New York.

Duties will focus on the preparation, marking, sale and administration of timber harvests with private logging contractors, conducting forest inventory and assessment, GIS mapping,  developing forest management plans and interacting with landowner clients.  Other activities related to forestry, land management and conservation should be expected.

Candidates should have a degree from a Society of American Forestry-accredited institution and/or relevant experience in field forestry.  This is not an entry-level position.

Candidates should have good field skills (map, compass, navigation, etc.), writing skills, familiarity with GPS and GIS and forest inventory techniques. Experience with timber marking and implementation of silvicultural techniques is required. The ability to use MS Word, MS Excel and ArcGIS is preferable. The candidate will need to have good communication skills and  the ability to interact effectively with clients, loggers and the public.

Knowledge of and experience with Vermont's Use Value Appraisal Program as well as experience with chainsaws and heavy equipment is a plus but not required.
