American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) seeks a District Manager to join our team in Kirkland, WA. This position will report to the Region Manager and will be responsible for Timberland Management budgeting, monthly client reporting, managing a staff of 4 foresters, developing new client business, participating in Forest Policy working groups, developing proposals, managing forestry consulting projects, and other tasks assigned by the Region Manager on 90,000 acres in Washington State. This position is responsible for working closely with other District Managers and Area Managers in WA to ensure client goal fulfillment. As the Kirkland District Manager, this position will also be responsible for developing and generating new forestry consulting and forest management business with TIMOs and non-industrial private forest landowners (NIPF).

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares budgets, annual operating plans, forecasts, and reports for TIMO and NIPF clients.
  • Oversees the management of contractors in the implementation of forest operations
  • Manages contract negotiation for management operations
  • Contract administration of technical experts
  • Participation in industry meetings and co-ops
  • Developing forestry consulting projects and preparing proposals
  • Work within the objectives of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative
  • Manages four person team for compliance with Company mission, vision, core values and policies. Manages team performance and safety program.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Region Manager

Work Environment

  • Office and remote field environment. At times works alone in remote forest lands accessed by private unimproved roads where off-road driving skills are required. Involves working long periods of time outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions including summer heat and extreme cold.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or closely related field
  • 5 years of forestry experience including experience in forest harvest operations, timber marketing, inventory, silviculture, and contract administration
  • Valid driver’s license for state of Washington or ability to secure one prior to commencement of work
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong listening capabilities with the ability to translate communications into appropriate course of action
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under strict time constraints
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced work environment
  • Highly proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of GIS and GPS applications
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Supervisory experience a plus
