Community Forester (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Full Time

  Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (http://www.paconserve.org)

  Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States

Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has a unique opportunity for a newly graduated forester who is interested in both the technical and community aspects of urban forestry initiatives. The Community Forester will provide technical and project management support and event coordination for Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Community Forestry Program throughout western Pennsylvania and for the TreeVitalize Pittsburgh project, a significant tree-planting initiative in Allegheny County. Success will be measured by the number of tree planting locations identified and assessed, the number of community volunteer tree plantings executed, the number of tree management plans created and implemented, and the number of inventories completed.

Requirements include a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, one year of experience in professional forestry work or an academic equivalent, the ability to use ArcView, ArcGIS, and ArcInfo software, and proficiency with MS Office. The successful candidate must possess an International Society for Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification, or be willing to obtain certification within the first three months of employment.

This position will entail significant weekend and evening commitments during the spring and fall planting seasons. This is a one-year, full-time, benefit-eligible position. Further employment beyond one year will be dependent on projects and funding.
