Bridge Engineer
Salary $58,921.64 to $76,830.90 annually, Plus a 4.4% Temporary Market Adjustment

The Engineering Branch provides strategic leadership in the operational delivery of the Engineering program by providing a safe provincial resource road network which balances industrial, commercial and public use while considering available resources and minimizing the impacts to the environment. The Engineering Branch is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Engineering program by ensuring compliance with all relevant Acts, Regulations, government policy, engineering standards, agreements and operational plans.
As a Bridge Engineer, you will lead the bridge inspection, maintenance, replacement and construction program for a defined geographic area of responsibility. This position ensures that bridges, roads and other structures are cost effective and are designed, built and maintained in compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, government policy, engineering standards and agreements, including safety regulations.
Your broad-ranging expertise is a valuable asset as you participate in, or lead local and provincial project teams, resolving technical design and other project issues. A collaborative approach is crucial to this role as you successfully establish and maintain productive working relationships with a wide variety of contacts including industry, contractors, environmental agencies, stakeholders and provincial and federal professionals. A skilled communicator, you plan, prepare and deliver effective presentations and training to diverse internal and external groups. To be considered for this position, applicants must clearly indicate that they have the following education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering, or civil engineering with a structural background or forest engineering with a structural background and five years of current professional (gained over last 7 years) related engineering experience.
- Preferably five years related bridge and road experience in the resource sector.
- Registration or eligible for immediate registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia.

- Plan, design, construct, rehabilitate and maintain new and existing forest bridges, roads and major culverts.
- Identify, gather, interpret and analyze technical and subjective information in order to verify conclusions and provide advice and recommendations.
- Develop and implement creative solutions to complex problems.
- Write a wide variety of documents, such as technical and professional reports, briefing notes and letters in a clear concise manner.
Administer, monitor and interpret terms and conditions of contracts.
- Work in a computerized environment.
- Plan, prepare and deliver oral presentations and training to diverse groups inside and outside government and to provide technical information at a level appropriate to the audience.
- Communicate in order to build and maintain effective working relationships with individuals within government, the community and non-government organizations.
- Obtain the co-operation of clients and staff, to comply with policy, procedures, regulations and time lines and to effectively use conflict resolution skills.
