Taan Forest Limited Partnership (Taan), a subsidiary of Haida Enterprises Corporation (HaiCo) is seeking a highly motivated individual to be part of its forestry team on Haida Gwaii.
As Assistant Engineer you will report directly to the Planning Field Supervisor. Working in a team environment you will be responsible for supervision and quality checks of contract layout crews, conducting your own layout of harvest areas and roads, completing recce of wood ahead and scheduling assessments and other professionals for assessment work. You will work closely with operations staff to meet Taan’s harvest and road requirements. You will be based out of Taan’s Skidegate office requiring travel to Taan’s operations throughout Graham, Moresby and Louise Islands on Haida Gwaii.
Qualifications
RFT or RFT eligible preferred
5yrs+ coastal experience preferred
Experience with Trimble GPS, RoadEng and EBM knowledge will be considered an asset
Taan is committed to creating a successful forest business and economy on Haida Gwaii based on the management principles of the Strategic Land Use Agreement. The underlying goal is to maximize the benefits from the forest resource on Haida Gwaii and for the Haida Nation. Specifically, manage for long term sustainability, increase the number of local logging and manufacturing jobs on Haida Gwaii, extract the best value possible from the areas harvested, and manage the business prudently and effectively.
