WFP is seeking an Area Planner interested in joining our Stillwater Forest Operation in Powell River on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.  Powell River is a warm and sunny seaside community with abundant recreational opportunities and has a total district population of approximately 20,000 residents.

Western’s Stillwater Forest Operation has a fully integrated and team oriented Planning Department where members of the planning team work closely together to achieve our annual targets and goals.  This is a key role within the planning team as the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and implementing all aspects of the Operation’s silviculture program.  The ideal candidate will also become an integral part of the local community becoming a respected forestry professional through public engagement and management of the Operation’s recreation initiatives.

The Stillwater Forest Operation manages Block 1 of Tree Farm License 39 which is Sustainable Forest Management (CAN/CSA–Z809-2008) certified by the Canadian Standards Association.  This high site index, Douglas-fir leading second growth forest has an approximate annual harvest of 450,000m3/year.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Reporting to the Operations Planner, this highly motivated individual is an integral part of the planning team with a focus on the following key functions and skill sets:

  • Supporting a culture of safety leadership where we care for each other.
  • Participating in a dynamic team environment that shares information, welcomes creativity, and challenges the status quo.
  • Managing and maintaining detailed record keeping for the full silviculture program.
  • Supervising contractors, developing budgets, and managing projects.
  • Completing silviculture assessments and implementing silviculture treatments.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with local government, government agencies, and the general public through trust, respect, and strong communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to recognize and implement the required activities.
  • Registered Professional Forester with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP).
  • Experience with the Cenfor record keeping database is an asset.
