As one the world’s leading pulp and paper organizations, our client is currently seeking a 2nd Class Power Engineer for their facility near Halifax, Nova Scotia. The privately-owned agribusiness has more than 150 years’ experience and is known as one of the most efficient port terminal facilities in the world.

Known for being one of the most successful grain handling facilities, and one of Canada’s best managed companies, our client is dedicated to providing their employees with the resources needed to safely and efficiently execute responsibilities. Reporting to the Steam and Recovery Manager, the successful candidate will supervise an operating crew during 12-hour shifts, and perform hazard assessments.

The plant is situated in a smaller community outside of Halifax, N.S., in a beautiful riverside town. Responsibilities

  • Operating and recovering power boilers, turbo generators, recaust and kilns, and primary water treatment and effluent plants
  • Ensure compliance to all regulations, directives, licenses and permit requirements
  • Provide direction, leadership, and coordination for the operations activities
  • Manage the performance, hiring, training, mentoring and succession planning of Operations personnel
  • Review new work requests, ensure accuracy, and approve for core team consideration
  • Create and enforce operational procedures and policies
  • Participate in and lead incident investigations and root cause analysis

Qualifications

  • 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate (preference will be given to candidates with a N.S. provincial or Interprovincial certificate)
  • Applicants with a 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate will be considered if they have made significant progress towards attaining their 2nd Class ticket
  • Experience supervising in a unionized pulp mill environment is an asset
