Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Monitor, analyze and report data on product deliveries and specifications.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations. 
  • Develop short and long term strategies to maintain market advantages over competitors. 
  • Manage, coordinate and administer log deliveries, harvesting operations, log procurement, log inventories, timber tract purchase and delivery.
  • Analyzes timber data and assigns values based on size, quality, competition and other logistics.
  • Coordinate efforts to maximize value of resources and procurement efforts.
  • Effective team leader and facilitator for the mills and Region operations. Hire, train, and manage performance of staff.
  • Responsible for the procurement (sourcing, negotiating and purchasing) and delivery of logs from federal, state, tribal and private lands to operating facilities. Manage log flow of suppliers and raw material utilization.
  • Coordinate and direct all phases of logging/harvesting/delivery of logs from private, state, tribal and federal lands.
  • Responsible for the sale of excess and non-usable/non-profitable logs to external customers
  • Responsible for cruising, appraisal, and purchase recommendations for stumpage for raw material supply.
  • Develop forecasts, budgets and operational plans for log deliveries to the mills.
  • Plan logging schedules.
  • Represent the company in government and public meetings and through participation in political activities to ensure an adequate supply of log volume.
  • Responsible for implementing the company’s policies, procedures and management actions to ensure compliance with Sustainable Forestry Management, third party certification programs (SFI, FSC, PEFC) and Chain-Of-Custody system certification requirements.
  • May participate in tree marking, land clearing, site preparation and road and bridge maintenance.
  • May assist in the day to day operations of the log yard and log yard inventory.
  • Coordinate with log accounting and contractors to ensure contracts are managed accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
  • Drive flexibility to the system. Support the strategy of best in class/low cost manufacturing by executing and communicating wood procurement strategy.
  • Owner of Residual Management and fuel purchases.
  • Understand G-wood relationship to logs and procure accordingly to system needs.
  • Develop, build and maintain effective relationships internally at the plants, and externally with customers and suppliers.
  • Maintain effective inventories, support rotation, understand impacts to cash flows.
  • Be actively involved and aware in plant operations relative to wood consumption and recoveries.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Good organizational and analytical skills.  Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.  Knowledge of supervisory and management techniques.  Ability to understand and administer legal contracts.  Knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures and systems.  Team and customer oriented.  Knowledge of computer software, log accounting systems  (LIMS) and ability to use these systems.  Knowledge of Best Management Practices and Environmental regulations.  Demonstrated supervisory skills. Be a licensed registered forester.
