Shultz Forest Management and Consulting LLC is seeking applicants to fill a full time (40hrs/week) Wetland and Forest Restoration Technician position. The primary focus of this position is to conduct wetland restoration on private lands in accordance with NJ DEP regulations and contracts and perform forest restoration through timber stand improvement and invasive plant control.  Typical duties include herbicide application, tree regeneration and invasive plant surveys, crop tree release and TSI chainsaw work, GPS mapping, tree planting, and other duties as assigned. The position may include a small amount of overnight travel for which employee will be compensated.

Job Requirements:

This is a labor-intensive field position, and the employee should expect to spend >90% of their time working outdoors, must be able to carry a 30 pound pack over various terrain, and work in all weather conditions. Encounters with poison ivy, stinging and biting insects, ticks, venomous snakes, and other hazardous condition common to the forests and wetlands of the area occur regularly. Applicant must be able to identify eastern U.S. tree species and invasive plant species common to the area. A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management or other related program with two years of field experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management or another related program. Previous work experience is preferred but not required depending on course work and level of degree. The applicant must have a valid driver’s license, and be able to provide their own transportation if not using housing option. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to work independently and in a team environment. Applicant must present themselves in a professional business-like manner when interacting with contractors, clients, and the public. Applicant must be a self-starter that can handle multiple projects running concurrently.

Salary is dependent upon education and experience relevant to job duties.
