Annual Salary:  $60,678.23 - $75,786.81

LOCATION: It is preferred this position is located in either Victoria or Kamloops, but Nelson or Prince George may also be considered.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources, and protection of B.C.’s archaeological and heritage resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation.

Reporting to the Team Lead, Inventory Operations in the Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch, the Vegetation Resources Inventory (VRI) Specialist plans and manages large, complex inventory projects, including developing plans for inventory projects, preparing tenders and contracts, managing contracts, evaluating deliverables, authorizing payment, negotiating and resolving disputes.  In this position you will consult with stakeholders, represent the ministry in various settings, review and improve inventory standards and procedures, and provide definitive technical advice.  This position has a provincial scope and mandate, managing inventory projects located anywhere in the province.  These projects produce forest inventory maps, data sets, imagery, reports, and models.  These products provide the current and accurate resource information that is a prerequisite for responsible and effective management of BC’s natural resources.

To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following:

  • Degree in forestry and a minimum of three years of experience in forest inventory, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be registered as a professional forester (RPF) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals, or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Experienced forest inventory photo-interpreter in B.C. or other jurisdictions.

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency, planning, managing and undertaking forest inventory photo-interpretation or forest inventory ground sampling projects.

Preferred

  • Certification in VRI Phase 1 Photo-Interpretation, VRI Phase 2 Ground Sampling, or Net Volume Adjustment Factor sampling.
