Job Opportunity: Trainee Forestry Machine Operators (Multiple positions)

Our client is a family owned and operated company who has been in operation for over 50 years based in Oberon. The business currently harvests, forwards and hauls softwood plantations for both government and private clients in the Macquarie region and employs over 70 people across their logging, road haulage, maintenance and support teams.  

We are preparing for further expansion so we are seeking a number of Trainee Forestry Machine Operators to join our team for the long-term. We operate at various logging sites around the central west of NSW predominately around the Oberon – Bathurst area and sometimes further afield in the Central West.

These trainee positions would suit someone wanting to make a career transition for the long-term. We are looking for individuals who are overall the right FIT for the business. You will mostly likely be described as honest, reliable, likes to learn new things, mature, seeks stability in employment, someone who takes pride in their work and has a good sense of humour at the same time.

Your key responsibilities will include

  • Learn all aspects of how a forestry business operates productively.
  • Become competent in the operation of either a harvester or a forwarder forestry machine.
  • Operation of forestry specific 'in cab' technology
  • Accurate record keeping & completion of documentation.
  • Undertake pre start checks on your allocated machine
  • Basic mechanical diagnosis ability to relay accurate information to our Field Service Team
  • Demonstrate an uncompromising approach to your safety and the people working with you.
  • Participate in risk assessing and work health and safety related processes.

Selection Criteria - to be considered for this role you will;

  • Be able to demonstrate stable previous employment periods
  • Have previous machine operator experience such as earth moving machinery or mining machinery.
  • Be able to demonstrate your suitability to work in isolated bush areas
  • Have a willingness to work long hours especially when weather permits; 10-12 hours days
  • Agree to undertake formal training in FWP30216 Certificate III in Harvesting and Haulage
  • Average level of mechanical aptitude
  • Be upwardly mobile to work away depending on forestry location (Stay in supplied accommodation Monday to Friday)
  • Be a disciplined self-starter with natural problem solving skills.
  • Appreciate the importance of production having worked in a production based environment previous.
  • Be willing to undertake a trial period (timeframe negotiable & can be discussed at interview stage)

Compensation

An attractive package is on offer commencing at approx $70000 as your productivity increases so will your earnings. If you supply your own work vehicle to travel to sit in you will receive a daily vehicle allowance.
