Description:

The Timber Procurement Manager assures that the wood pole / wood fiber procurement operations are maintained and run efficiently and that products are produced on a timely manner, cost effect basis, meeting the customer quality and specification standards as well as the Corporate QC policy. This position has fiber procurement responsibility and all activities related to this regional area. This position reports directly to the Area Fiber Manager and has reporting to it, all location Foresters, Buyers, Technicians, and Pole Markers. 

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  1. Assures that the pole procurement operations are maintained and run efficiently and that products are produced on a timely manner, cost effect basis, meeting the customer quality and specification standards as well as the Corporate QC policy.

  2. Evaluate public and private sale analysis while offering opinions on stumpage, logging costs, by-product sales.  Pre-sale recon to develop pole estimates is critical. 

  3. Oversee implementation of the company Management Assistance Program.

  4. Maintain a forecasting report with monthly updates required.

  5. Effectively market all non-pole products from both harvesting operations as well as production yard fall down material.

  6. Manages timber sales contracts to insure compliance with all regulatory requirements. 

  7. Insures that timber sale operators are properly supervised and will complete the sale activities in a dignified manner that complements our corporate goals.

  8. Management of existing and future additions woodlands staff to include contractors, forester, forest technician/timber marker or cruiser positions.

  9. Provides necessary input and coordination on scheduling and process capability to provide for orderly on plant commitments.

  10. Assures proper inventory levels of operating supplies when needed.

  11. Assures that woodlands operations paperwork is properly handled to support the required records, documentation and accounting systems; maintain corporate equipment.

  12. Travel to other company operating areas, to provide assistance, as required.

  13. Represents the corporation at public events and or meetings where necessary and maintain membership in industry associations. 

Skill Based Requirements:

  1. 5+ years of wood fiber procurement and marketing experience.

  2. Previous experience/strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices.

  3. Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends.

  4. Demonstrated strong leadership, team building and advanced coaching skills.

  5. Demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.

  6. Excellent interpersonal communication and listening ability.

  7. A strong ability to be adaptable and flexible.

  8. Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

  11. Availability to travel overnight regularly; 2+ days per month
