Summary:
Under direction of the Forestry Manager, the Staff Forester is responsible to assist the Forestry Manager in planning, management, and administration of the forestry and fire programs. Position assists in planning efforts related to the Sterling Fuel Break project phases, assists the Forestry Manager in the planning, management, and administration of the forestry and fire program. Core elements of this program include: timber sales, silviculture, timber appraisals, forest inventories, timber trespass, forest development, integrated forest management plans, environmental assessments, permits, timber sale money accounts, administrative fee accounts, reports, forest protection (fire, insects, disease),and marketing. Execute department policies and operating procedures. Collects, compiles, analyzes and maintains data base in computerized (including GIS) software or paper file formats. Assist in securing land use agreements, rights-of-way, and necessary permits from federal, state, borough, native organizations and other private organizations to facilitate harvesting, or other related projects. Represent Chugachmiut and the native forestry interests with local, state, and national organizations. Provide technical assistance to tribal councils, native village and native regional corporations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS degree in forestry or related field
- Work Related experience for the position
- Current wildland fire Red Card qualified preferred

Benefits:
Hours worked are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch. This a full-time 37.5 hours per week and 1950 hours a year position. Chugachmiut maintains a drug and alcohol free, non-smoking environment. There may be occasional travel to the villages of the region, must be willing and able to travel in light aircraft.
