Senior Project Manager, Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council

The Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council, a collaborative land conservation and youth investment nonprofit foundation, seeks a senior project manager to manage and coordinate the development and implementation of land conservation plans for assigned properties located in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountain Ranges; facilitate the completion of fee title and conservation easement transactions; and assist the director of land conservation with the enhancement program associated with the land conservation program.

Primary Purpose of Position

Manage and coordinate the development and implementation of Land Conservation Plans for assigned properties located in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountain Ranges; facilitate the completion of fee title and conservation easement transactions; and assist the Director of Land Conservation with the Enhancement Program associated with the Land Conservation Program. 

Position Responsibilities

Project Management

  • For designated planning units, collaborate with the Director of Land Conservation and other project managers in the development and implementation of Land Conservation Plans by facilitating the successful negotiation and completion of fee title and conservation easement transactions;
  • Prepare written materials and presentations for board and committee meetings to aid in the decision-making; and work with conservation partners to develop enhancement projects;
  • Manage a project schedule, budget, consultants, and scope of work related to the completion of site studies, planning, legal requirements and other tasks necessary to support land transfers and long term management of the lands; and
  • Manage special projects and other duties as assigned.

Enhancement Program Management

  • Work in close coordination with the Director of Land Conservation, the Executive Director, Director of Finance, outside legal counsel, and other land staff to manage the Stewardship Council’s Enhancement Program, as follows:
  • Implement and develop policies, procedures, and processes associated with the Enhancement Program;
  • Manage the process of identifying, evaluating, and recommending enhancement projects;
  • Work with and/or collaborate with organizations in the development of their enhancement project proposals;
  • Facilitate enhancement review subcommittee meetings and present recommended enhancement projects to the Planning Committee and/or full board;
  • Work with Director of Finance and Executive Director to develop funding agreements for enhancement program grants; and
  • Oversee grantee compliance with grant agreements.

Community Relations and Communications

  • Act as the Stewardship Council’s primary liaison for assigned planning units. Build and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with public agencies and key staff, tribal organizations, local elected officials, private non-profits, community members and other interested individuals;
  • Implement stakeholder outreach programs, including coordinating and participating in public information meetings within an assigned region;
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to community groups, elected officials, and other interested parties as necessary;
  • Develop public outreach materials and website content as necessary; and
  • Support responses to media inquiries as requested.

Research and Analysis

  • Conduct research and analysis and prepare position papers and recommendations on land and property management policies and issues;
  • Prepare land conservation plans, environmental and real estate documents, progress reports, memos, and other distributions as requested.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience in natural resources management, community relations, real estate management, and/or land use planning management. Familiarity and experience negotiating conservation easements is desired.
  • A minimum of two years working as a project manager or equivalent.
  • The ability to independently perform many of the duties described above.
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, environmental/conservation planning, biology, or related field. Master’s degree or equivalent desired.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills.
  • Positive, mature, and professional communication style. Strong skills in consensus building.
  • Advanced skills in all of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project). Experience with ArcView GIS and GPS a plus.
  • Desire to work in high-energy environment.
  • Estimated 15 to 25% travel (within California) required.

Position is based in Roseville, CA.
