Senior Mechanical Designer

Job Description

The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical design and project management skills to work in our design office in Lindsay, Ontario. Based on the candidates experience they will use their skills to successfully manage projects in the engineering department specifically related to Bulk Material Handling Projects and/or Sawmill and Lumber Handling Machinery.

Key Duties Include*

  • Sales support and preliminary design and customer assistance
  • Review sales specifications, project specifications, and layout design of new projects
  • Design/specification of mechanical/electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic systems and materials, technical selection, sizing and evaluation of equipment and parts
  • Detailed design and CAD design completely or to support other designers/detailers in the department
  • Review/approve drawings and provide fabrication/assembly technical support
  • Participate in pre/post-design reviews
  • Monitor and mentor junior team members
    *(Depending on the candidates strengths – subject to vary slightly)

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 year - Dip. Eng. Technology – Mechanical/Mechatronics/Structural (P.Eng not required but preference will be given)
  • 7-10 years minimum design/project management experience in Bulk Material Handling or lumber/sawmill/pulp & paper industries or equivalent
  • Working experience in one or more of the following specialty areas;
    • Manufacturing Engineering as it relates to fabrication/assembly of automated equipment
    • Advanced pneumatics and hydraulics design
    • Working knowledge of automated systems PLC programming, interfacing and componentry
    • Bulk material handling equipment and processes design
    • Sawmill/lumber breakdown/handling design
    • Project management on integrated mechanical systems and startups
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team (both internal and remote), including mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and CAD support
  • Fully versed in Autodesk AutoCAD 20010 or later, and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Canadian Visa
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Ability to work extra hours to ensure a successful project when required
  • 3D CAD experience (Preferred Autodesk Inventor) is an asset
