Overview:

Reporting to the Port Alberni Division Controller, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in month-end processes and many related accounting assignments. This position will also be accountable for the development of the annual operating plans for the mills. Strong technical skills, communication, and variance analysis skills are vital to this position, as is the ability to build a working knowledge of the mill’s cost structure and processes. This position will be based out of out Port Alberni, BC division.

The processes and control measures of a working mill evolve over time; thus, this position is required to generate new reports or build on existing reports as needs arise. To aid in the interpretation and quality control of this reporting, it is critical that the accountant can handle details and validate results with the business. 

Responsibilities:

  • Accounting, monthly financial reports and balance reconciliations
  • Prepare journal entries for both day-to-day and month-end transactions
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly lead sheets, working papers, and financial reports and assist in preparation of plan and latest view
  • Assist cost centre owner in analysis their weekly and monthly costs
  • Maintain and reconcile sub-ledgers to G/L
  • Assist in external audit requirements
  • Ensure SOX compliance and continual process improvements in all that you do
  • Working safe and help promote safety at work
  • Additional duties as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Business/Finance or Accounting
  • 3 - 5 years accounting experience with a manufacturing industry preferred
  • Enrolled or completed professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, and CA) is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and diligence to the business process
  • Self-starter, proactive, and strong business acumen
  • Excellent PC skills and all MS Office - particularly Excel
  • Good communicator with an inquiring mind

The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Vancouver Island, BC for this position.
