EACOM is one of the major producers in the Eastern Canadian timber industry. Operations include the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of lumber and wood-based value-added products, and the management of forest resources. EACOM currently owns eight sawmills (5 in Ontario, 3 in Quebec), a remanufacturing facility (Quebec) and a partnership operation in an engineered I joist plant (Ontario) for a total of 800 employees.

Thus, we are looking for a Scaler for our Ear Falls Sawmill in Ontario. Reporting to the Supervisor - Wood Measurement, you will be responsible for operating the truck/weight scale, for carrying out the wood measurement and sampling program to ensure quality objectives are met and for maintenance of the weigh scale systems.

Job description:

  • Interface with and train truck drivers to assure use of the weigh scale system inaccordance with process.
  • Ensure accuracy of the daily load receipts.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the Weigh IT scale software.
  • Work closely with sawmill and forest operations personnel to ensure the efficient processing of material through the weigh scale system.
  • Ensure that all government and company statutes, rules and regulations with respect to scaling are carried out satisfactorily
  • Conduct all sample scaling for the calculation of weight to volume factors
  • Measure and maintain an accurate yard inventory
  • Operate and maintain the weigh scale system
  • Conduct quality sampling of round wood received at the sawmill
  • Check and maintain all records of wood receipts and inventory.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Scaler’s license with approval to measure crown resources.
  • You are experienced in the use of Microsoft Office and are comfortable with the use of electronic data collection tools
  • Maintain a valid Ontario Scaler’s License.
