Wage: $50 - $70k+/year depending on experience
Education Required: High school GED required.
Years Experience Required:  3 to 5 years’ experience in sawmill and lumber planer saw filing and planer sharpening.

Description: 

The Saw Filer is responsible for the day shift circular and band saw maintenance along with planer knives. The Saw Filer reports to the Head Saw Filer, and is also directly responsible to provide safe operation of saw sharpening equipment, bench and tension circular and band saws and any other work usually performed by a Saw Filer in the lumber manufacturing industry. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in safety programs and ensure the application of our safety standards for all maintenance operations.

  • You have a commitment to work in a safe productive manner to maximize quality and production while minimizing production, maintenance costs and unscheduled downtime.

  • Execute sawmill equipment saw & knife changes in a timely manner

  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and perform necessary repairs

  • Collaborate with Production and Maintenance personnel.

  • Document saw filing maintenance.

  • Perform periodic inspections of equipment and systems to observe operating condition and need for repair or adjustment.

  • You will apply your excellent organizational skills to maximize uptime, quality and production

  • Communicate updates to supervisor to maintain goals

  • Shift work will be required. The filler would work 40 to 45 hrs a week starting at 6am. 

Qualifications: 

  • Saw Fitter, Saw Filer or Bench person certification in the Lumber Manufacture Industry preferred but not required.

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in sawmill and lumber planer environment

  • Carbide saws experience, welding and putting tension on circular and band mill saws. Planer knife sharpening and grind wheels.

  • Ability to check cross line on mills

  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a diverse trades team environment

  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting skills

  • Support continuous improvement and contribute to cost savings initiatives

  • MS Office, and Computer skills preferred but not required.

  • A self-motivated

  • Individual who will work towards Reliability Excellence 

Compensation

Wage: $50k - $70k+/year depending on experience
