Our client's sawmill is located in Atikokan and we currently are seeking talent for the role of Sawmill Manager.

You will be responsible for managing a team made up of staff, operators and maintenance specialists. This modern two line mill produces over 150 Million BDFT per annum and incorporates the latest technology available in the industry today so that you have all of the tools needed for success! The Sawmill Manager reports to the General Manager. You will also be directly responsible for all aspects of the business: from the safety of all of the employees to the business performance, including administration and labour relations.

Your Responsibilities:

· Ensure the highest safety standards are being upheld

· Maintain progressive employee training and development programs and a succession plan

· Manage all labour relations, manpower and scheduling requirements.

· Oversee all work systems to ensure efficient operation, as well as managing all service and supply contracts

· Develop yearly and five-year capital and operating plans for the facility.

· Oversee budgets to ensure cost control and decision making.

· Maintain continuous improvement program and maintenance systems to maximize performance

· Optimize product values by liaising with lumber sales and sawmill and planer operations in order to develop the best product strategy and product distribution.

· Ensure optimal quality and fibre recovery through process optimization and quality control.

· Ensure product quality (lumber, chips, bark and sawdust and shavings) meets customer needs and lumber grade standards.

· Ensure environmental compliance and the application of ISO -14001 processes.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma from a recognized post-Secondary Institution or the equivalent in related experience.

· Preference will be given to candidates with sawmill or wood products manufacturing experience.

· Excellent Communication skills (spoken and written), bilingualism would be an asset.

· A passion for taking charge in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

· Exceptional prioritization and multi-tasking skills

· The ability to collaboratively drive issues to closure.
