About the Opportunity

Nisga’a Pacific Ventures LP is currently seeking a full-time Registered Professional Forester to join the Lisims Forest Resources team in Gitlaxt'aamiks, British Columbia (also known as New Aiyansh).

Lisims Forest Resources manages the harvesting, marketing, and sale of Nisga'a forest resources. Hemlock, balsam fir, cedar, spruce, and several deciduous species are harvested from Nisga'a Lands and sold to purchasers in Canada, China, Japan, and Korea. Lisims Forest Resources is continually seeking partners to help expand its market and develop a value-added wood products industry. They are also engaged in the harvest and sale of non-timber botanical forest products, including pine mushrooms.

In this role, you will liaise with the NLG and maximize revenue from the log profile, including marketing efforts. You will use your experience to support operational planning and ensure that production meets targets and is responsive to changes in the market. 

Key duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Leading and implementing safety and environmental initiatives to ensure compliance and efficiency
  • Optimizing log quality and value planning to meet standards and market needs
  • Overseeing timber development and the implementation of strategic initiatives, as required
  • Overseeing road development and long-term access needs
  • Managing long-term operational planning and budget, as well as monitoring and reporting on performance 
  • Implementing contract management system, negotiating rates and facilitating competitive bidding 
  • Ensuring that all contractual obligations are met, as well as negotiating and resolving issues cost effectively 
  • Overseeing and implementing strategic goals, objectives, and plans 
  • Communicating and collaborating with operations and senior management to help foster a results-oriented, innovative team environment 

For this role, we are seeking candidates currently registered/eligible for registration with the ABCFP as a Professional Forester (RPF) or Forest Technologist (RFT)

The successful candidate will also demonstrate:  

  • 3-5 years of coastal forest industry experience and a track record of safety leadership
  • Previous contract management and operational planning experience with a focus on productivity, cost, and innovation
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations, as well as log quality management and log export processes
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to resolve conflict effectively 
  • Superior communication and organizational skills  
  • A strong belief in social license and the ability to engage others with integrity, respect, and collaboration 
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and the ability to travel, when required
