Regional Scaling Specialist
$56,478.64 - $64,337.78 annually

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is the Province’s agency responsible for land and resource management in B.C., which includes the protection of the Province’s archaeological and heritage resources.  Operating on a provincial land base of over 94 million hectares, the Ministry ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land based resources; works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversity their economies; and, supports activities that provide environmental, economic, cultural and social benefits.  The Ministry is responsible for wildfire management and facilitates safe public access to a wide range of recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, and access to B.C.’s wilderness and backcountry.  The Ministry oversees policy development, operational management and implementation, and administers all or part of over 60 statutes and associated regulations.

This Regional Scaling Specialist position provides area based scaling services to the South Area. It is a key position that assists in the overall administration of the regional scaling program, providing expertise and assistance to staff, licensees and other clients on matters relating to scaling.  The Regional Scaling Specialist also facilitates the licensing and administration of scalers through a technical and practical examination of their knowledge and skills.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Graduation from Secondary School or equivalent.
  • Valid Interior Scaling Licence with required endorsements.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Interior scaling operational experience that is directly related to scaling and/or billing.  Experience must have been gained within the last 8 years.
  • Experience in Residue/Waste and Export preferred.

Related experience includes:

  • Operational forestry such as log scaling, logging residue and waste measurements and procedures, compliance and enforcement activities, harvesting and forest engineering.

$56,478.64 - $64,337.78 annually
