Soper-Wheeler Company LLC has an opening for a qualified reforestation specialist/Forester to help manage the Company’s timberlands in ten Northern California counties including Sierran and Coastal lands.  The successful applicant will be required to work out of the Company’s offices in Strawberry Valley, located in northern Yuba County.

PRIMARY DUTIES

·         Implement reforestation program to effectively establish and manage conifer plantations

·         Prepare and administer contracts for reforestation activities including tree planting, vegetation management, site preparation, and thinning

·         Maintain documentation and database of reforestation activities

·         Assist in other forestry work including THP preparation, logging administration, controlled burning 

QUALIFICATIONS 

·         B.S. in Forestry, Natural Resources, Agriculture, or related field

·         Knowledge of reforestation activities and Sierran and coastal forest types

·         Knowledge of California Department of Pesticide Regulation laws related to use of herbicides

·         Ability to perform physically demanding work, such as walking several miles per day over rough terrain in a variety of adverse conditions including rain, cold, heat, or dusty conditions.  Ability to lift 50 lbs. Flexibility, agility, and stamina are required.

·         Ability to work in remote, mountainous areas

·         Ability to navigate in mountainous areas using map and compass or GPS

·         Ability to work independently and as a team member

·         Ability to operate a four wheel drive vehicle

·         Valid California driver’s license required

·         Excellent communication skills required

·         Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel required

·         California Pest Control Adviser (PCA) license with weed and vertebrate pest categories or ability to pass the PCA exam within one year preferred

·         California Registered Professional Forester or ability to take exam within one year preferred
