Quality Control Supervisor (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Western Forest Products' Cowichan Bay Sawmill is currently in search of a Quality Control Supervisor.  The Quality Control Supervisor is an integral part of the manufacturing process and a key to ensuring maximum value and consistent quality in our products. 

DUTIES:

  • To provide leadership in all aspects of safety
  • Understand all mill cutting programs and ensure all manufacturing standards are maintained           
  • Evaluate head end breakdown and provide feedback and guidance to operators
  • Communicate grading rules and standards to all employees; constantly evaluate and provide feedback
  • Train all teams within the sawmill regarding order file, products, and grade decisions 
  • Utilize size control and other statistical procedures to ensure maximum value and recovery.
  • Work with sales team and customers to meet customer grade and quality expectations
  • Responsible for the day to day operation of scanning and optimization equipment.
  • Work periodic shift work as relief foreman and other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Understanding of OH&S Regulations and loss prevention practices
  • Comprehensive Computer skills
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with  Coastal grading
  • Knowledge of grade log breakdown and manufacturing
  • Understanding of equipment specifications
  • Good communication skills – written/oral
  • Previous experience in a Quality Control
  • High degree of initiative and appreciation for excellence
