The Pulp Mill Maintenance Supervisor directs the mechanical crafts (pipefitters, millwrights, oilers, masons, mobile equipment) in the maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment in the Pulp, Recovery, Power, Water and Wastewater Treatment Departments. The Maintenance Supervisor ensures all equipment is in good operating condition and preventative/predictive maintenance is done to provide maximum equipment uptime.

Pulp Mill Maintenance Supervisor Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance supervisory experience in a union environment

Pulp Mill Maintenance Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Must follow Expera’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable to the position’s areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.
  • Promote a safe working environment through seasonal and job-specific safety discussions and daily stretching exercises.
  • Work with department managers to address all safety issues in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Supervise crew in all mechanical maintenance activities in the Pulp Mill.
  • Perform the normal supervisory duties of labor relations, scheduling, safety, cost reduction, training, discipline, and record-keeping to maintain efficient department operations.
  • Assign scheduled work and oversee the daily direction of personnel relative to job safety, quality and workmanship. Develop individual accountability for job completion and timeliness.
  • Plan and manage maintenance days to ensure full utilization of craftsmen manpower to reduce subcontracted work.
  • Provide assistance to engineering and outside consultants to develop plans for mechanical improvement and installations.
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of all mobile equipment on site.
  • Identify improvements in work practices and procedures utilized by the mechanical crafts people.
  • Monitor department budget and cost controls with the Maintenance Superintendent and other Business Unit Managers.
  • Attend the daily Business Unit Level 3 meeting to discuss the status of the current day’s schedule, develop the next day’s schedule, and report on Maintenance Key Performance Indicators.
  • Participate in weekend coverage for mill-wide mechanical maintenance every 8 weeks, including 1 holiday per year.
