Overview:

Founded in 1943, the Virginia Forestry Association (VFA) is a non-profit, privately supported organization with the purpose of encouraging wise use of forest resources in the Commonwealth for present and future generations. VFA members are forest landowners, foresters, forest products businesses, loggers, forestry consultants, and a variety of individuals and groups who are concerned about the future well-being of Virginia's forest resource. Our organization is dedicated to sustaining, developing, protecting, and promoting the forests and related resources of Virginia. VFA seeks to maintain a political and economic climate favorable for forest ownership and forest industry in the state and to enhance the public's perception of forestry through effective outreach and communications. VFA is seeking a full-time Programs Coordinator. The person hired will work in VFA’s Richmond office, reporting to the Executive Director, and working to serve various forestry and natural resource-related programs sponsored or supported by the association.

Primary Duties:

  • Coordinate the Virginia Sustainable Forestry Initiative Implementation Committee including meeting agenda and minutes preparation, budget management, member communication, outreach event organization, website maintenance, and report submission.
  • Work with the Virginia Tree Farm Foundation Board of Directors to administer the American Tree Farm System program in Virginia including database management, inspection coordination, entry, approval and tracking, inspector training workshop facilitation, inspector and Tree Farmer communication, meeting preparation, outreach event organization, website maintenance, grant application preparation, and report submission.
  • Attend Virginia Project Learning Tree Advisory Committee and other supported programs meetings.
  • Assist Executive Director in membership outreach, project or issue management, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assist Executive Director in fostering and maintaining state and national partner relationships.
  • Perform duties as needed to assist with VFA office management, membership database, communications, annual convention, and other ongoing projects and services as necessary and assigned.
Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task, work independently in a team-based environment, patience and flexibility with changing goals and requests.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Google, and database management software, eagerness to learn new technology.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the state alone or with other staff.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a forestry or natural resources discipline is preferred.
  • Formal work experience is not required, but evidence of extracurricular activity or post graduate work related to the responsibilities of the position is preferred.
  • Knowledge of non-profits, office management and accounting procedures preferred.

Compensation

This is a full-time, salaried (non-exempt) position. Benefits include stipend for health insurance, paid vacation, and retirement plan.
