Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent but bachelor’s degree is preferred. Requires at least 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
Years Experience Required: Eight to ten years of plywood plant experience including extensive experience in green end operations.
Description:
The Plywood Green End Superintendent will manage the safe, efficient and responsible operations of all green end and wood yard processes in a plywood mill.

Manage the efficient and safe operations of machine operations, product quality inspection.

Through supervisors select, train and direct hourly workers in proper work methods, safety, and skills development.

Assure that equipment and work areas are maintained properly.

Work with Plant Manager to plan work, determine products and volumes, and monitor budgets.

Work with maintenance to plan down day work and other work to ensure the optimal efficiency of the machinery to manufacturer specifications.
Responsibilities:

Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe and environmentally compliant manner and that all areas are free of work hazards.

Assure that proper safety training and process documentation exists and is provided to employees, and that all company safety policies and practices are adhered to. Set a personal example by actively reviewing supervisory safety coaching (focus, coverage, quality, “vibrancy” of activity, etc.) and by observing actual departmental work performance.

Select and train supervisory employees.

Provide ongoing structured coaching to current supervisors and operators to improve and maintain their leadership skills and to prepare them for future roles.

Observe and actively evaluate workers for potential future leadership potential.

Assure that green end production meets appropriate quality standards and product / process specifications.

Continually review and update, develop where necessary, standards and product / process specifications and inspect or test production to confirm quality and adherence to specifications.

Investigate and resolve quality issues, using other plant or company resources as necessary.

Manage green end operations to assure planned output at the highest practical efficiency and quality.

Work with Plant Manager, and other Superintendents and Supervisors to develop production schedules and budgets and to coordinate movement of material in and out of work area.

Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed. Assure that supervisors are acting in accordance with Hood Human Resources policies.

Assure that all green end machinery, equipment, and work areas are maintained properly.

Work with Maintenance to coordinate preventive maintenance, expedite repairs, and schedule equipment updates, additions, and/or replacements.

Candidates should have well-demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills and have broad technical knowledge of the plant processes.
