Hancock Forest Management is hiring a Production / Silviculture Forester in Orting, WA - North Cascades Area.
General Directive:
Responsible for harvest unit and associated transportation systems planning, layout, budgeting, permitting, and contract supervision. Responsible for silviculture including planning, coordinating, supervising, and implementing silviculture projects and programs.
Scope:
- NW Washington region encompasses over 203,000 acres.
- Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, concerned stake holders, HFM staff, and HTRG staff
- Develop and maintain relationships with road maintenance, road construction, and harvesting contractors
- Harvest layout and permitting
- Road maintenance and new road construction
- Harvest operations, log manufacturing, log sorting, and log quality control
Job Dimensions:
- Harvest unit and associated transportation systems layout, administration, and contract supervision
- Silvicultural activities planning, layout, permitting, and contract supervision
- Muckleshoot Initiatives planning and implementation
- Development of annual property budgets and forecasts
- SFI compliance
- Risk Management – ensure that log ticket, branding, and insurance requirements are being followed
- Basic mapping tasks with ArcMap
- Other duties as assigned
Specific Duties:
- Provide direction and oversight for the management of harvest unit layout
- Manage harvest unit and road construction bid and negotiation processes
- Contract administration and compliance of harvesting and road construction projects; actively support Log Quality Control program
- Silvicultural activities layout, contracting, and administration
- Active and involved in the Muckleshoot Initiatives
- Active and involved participant in the NW safety program
- Assist with the development of budgets and forecasts
- Implement SFI standards
- Support HNRG groups such as Acquisitions, Client Account Group, etc. as needed
- Special projects as requested or needed
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Forest Management (or related field such as Forest Engineering/Forest Science) or equivalent experience is required
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft computer software, with emphasis in Excel, Access, and Word preferred
- Knowledge of using Lotus Notes or similar e-mail program
- Knowledgeable in GIS, ArcMap
- Team player, be able to understand and work with other’s needs and with different personalities
- Highly motivated and entrepreneurial
- Strong oral and written communication skills
